Foster update 3/26/06
Betsy loves her toys. She will drag them all from the toy box and spread them all over the living room rug. She?ll grab the kong and do laps in the house, run into the crate with the kong, that back out and start all over again. This makes for a very loud event.
Betsy acts like a young pup. She loves to run and jump around in the back yard and playing with the other dogs. She ignores the cat, which is nice. We?ve not heard her bark yet, and I?m not sure what she thinks about looking out through windows. That seemed a new thing to her.
She has been eating and throwing up after a lot of her meals. She turns around and eats the food, so its not as if she is losing all of
the nutrients. But I don?t know if this is a real problem, or just a nervous tummy. Betsy is not housebroken yet. We have to take her out very hour or two to try and catch all of her needs. She had an accident in her crate one night, but she?s had a clean crate every other night.
She is getting much braver; she sometimes will go through the door in front of other dogs instead of always hold back. We?ve not had to use the leash to assist her with going through the door in the last few days. She?s getting used to household noises, and getting bumped and touched by dogs and people at unexpected times.
Betsy is still cautious at times, but she is becoming much more confident in just this week. She?s a great little girl.

**FOSTER UDPATE 4/4/06***
Betsy has her good days and her bad days. The good days do outnumber the bad days. Most times she will go in or outside with the other dogs, but some times she hangs back and a leash has to be used. Betsy is trying lots of things, she is getting good at stairs, is not interested in the cat, and loves to play with her toys. We are still working on what are toys and what aren?t. We found the TV remote in her crate yesterday.
It seems that she has gotten familiar with Tony and me, but new people still concern her.
Betsy just loves the out-of-doors and the nice weather. She rolls around on her back, does laps and tries to get the other dogs to play.
I?m not sure what type of family will be right for her, but I?m guessing at this point that there should be no children, a cat will be
ok, and she has to have another dog, one that is confident. She definatly follows the other dog?s examples.**

Betsy is an 18 month old puppy mill surrender due to a prolapsed uterus. She was spayed on 2/22/06 to save her life but now she can no longer able to earn her keep at the mill & was surrendered to rescue. Typical of the puppy mill dogs, everything is new to Betsy. She?s not used to being loved on but it didn?t take long to find out she loves gentle petting. She will just rest her head on your hand or knee & let you rub her head, chin & ears. She will slowly walk with a leash IF everyone is either in front of or beside her. If people are behind her, she just freezes. (Who knows what happened to her to create this behavior.) She is not housebroken but that training will start once she?s moved into a foster home. Betsy is a gentle soul looking for a home with the patience to teach her what it?s like a loved & valued member of a family.
