**Foster update 1/31/06**
Louie is having a rough go trying to get his eye to heal, but he is such a trooper. He never complains or acts like he’s in any pain and sits so still while we put in eye drops.
Louie is just a good ole boy. He knows several commands, is housebroke, but prefers to be out of the kennel more than in it. He had some severe crate anxiety when he first came to our house in November, but he has slowly became more comfortable in it. He does stay in the kennel during the day while we are at work, but as soon as we are home, he wants to be out with us.
He loves kids of all ages and while I wouldn’t let a younger child take him for a walk, he is very appropriate with them in the house.
He has had little to no interest in our cat after the initial meeting and a few days to get used to each other, he would do fine with a kitty in his forever home.
**Foster update 1/20/06**
Poor Louie.. he finally is cleared of his heartworms is able to interact with the other dogs in his home and is doing wonderfully. But somewhere in the fun and play, he scratches his cornea and is now wearing a lampshade.. his eye will heal and he is such a nice guy. Hopefully you will have room in your heart and home for him.. we’ll even send the lampshade if you want it. **
Louie came to us from a very small animal control that had neither the funds nor facilities to treat him. He is a plain fawn boy approx 4 years old, 61 lbs, who’s owners health was failing and he surrendered him to the local shelter. Louie was kept outside for most of his 4 years and while he is quietly recuperating from the heartworm treatment will need to work on his house manners. On the ride from the shelter to the vet’s office he just wanted someone to scratch his ears and give him a few pats of reassurance. He is fitting in okay in his foster home but will have 6 weeks of crate time as he gets over the heartworms. There is very seldom any lasting effects of that and he should be as good as new.
