Description
11/05/09 UPDATE: Rusty has been seen by an additional vet for a second opinion and it was determined we should NOT do surgery on his jaw. Currently Rusty has adapted to the improperly healed break and gets along just fine. Hes a sloppy eater and drinker and does have a bit of a slobber issue going on, but he is one sweet guy who needs the right home to look past his physical imperfections to the beautiful dog inside.

10/13/09 update: Rusty is just a big sweet, lug of a Boxer and has made great improvements since entering his foster home, but unfortunately, another problem has cropped up. The injury to Rustys eye appears to have had bigger repercussions than we first thought. Whatever injury he received apparently also fractured his jaw. That fracture has healed improperly, fusing his jaw, leaving Rusty unable to fully open his mouth. We are in the process of exploring surgery options, but it is going to be expensive!! If you would like to make a donation towards Rustys surgery, please visit the PayPal link on our page or contact us directly!! Rusty really is a great guy, such a sweet and happy personality. We want to get him healed up and in a home of his very own!!! Thank you!!!

8/10/09 UPDATE: Rustys eye continues to improve. As stated before, it will never look normal, but it looks much better then when he first came to us and he does have limited vision in it. Rustys foster mom reports he is the sweetest dog, very laid back and easy to entertain. He still is not 100% thrilled at being in the crate, but is getting better all the time.

7/13/09 UPDATE:Rustys eye is healing nicely, but its never going to look "normal" due to the damage done and the length of time the eye went untreated. He is gaining weight and is looking good. Rusty is going to need special attention paid to that eye for the rest of his life. The biggest danger would be getting debris in the eye and causing an infection. Rustys foster mom reports that hes really a laid back guy and loves everyone. He is still learning about leash training.

Rusty came to us from a small rural shelter with a severely injured eye and emaciated body. The eye injury looks like an old puncture wound. He recently had surgery to repair the eye and we are hoping for a full eye sight recovery. Rusty is brand new to rescue and learning about crate training (which hes not too fond of), housetraining, sharing, etc. Hes currently living with another Boxer, several smaller Italian Greyhounds and cats and so far, hes doing great with everyone. Rusty is a sweet, loving boy, who really loves to snuggle. Once he puts on some much needed weight, he will be a gorgeous little guy. A physically fenced yard is required to adopt Rusty as well as participating in a group obedience class.
