IN MEMORIAL KIRBY 1991-2003
Harry and I made the extremely difficult decision to send Kirby to the bridge yesterday. For those of you who don’t know about him, we rescued him about a year and a half ago. He was seen being dumped with Lily. A kind soul took them both in then called us. Kirby was heartworm positive, and had seborrhea, spondylosis, and several mast
cell tumors. We estimated his age to be around 12. He also had an amazing will to live! We treated everything we could, and he lived a
happy and active 18 months with us. He entertained us constantly as he was the quintessential ’grumpy old man’! Unfortunately, his spondylosis progressed to the point that it was causing nerve damage and his back legs were no longer functioning. We tried everything my
vet could think of, but nothing was showing any signs of helping. In fact, he just continued to get worse. When he didn’t have to move, he was the same old Kirby, but he couldn’t walk far without tipping over and we knew we had to let him go.
Run free, sweet Kirby. We miss you -
